Hi there! I’m Frances, and I absolutely love anything related to art, UI/UX design, and Front End Development. Whether I’m creating intuitive user interfaces or painting portraits of adorable dogs, I’m always in my creative zone. Fun fact: I’ve even tattooed myself—talk about dedication to art, right? I’m all about transforming ideas into visually stunning experiences, whether it’s on a digital canvas or a real one.
Below are a mix of some mockups, websites, and projects I've worked on over the past couple of years.
I specialize in modern design and what the current trends are.
These are some of the commissioned pet portraits I've hand painted over the years using a mix of mediums, from oil paint to acrylic paint.
I began my educational journey at Laredo College, where I earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA). After completing my studies there, I continued my education at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), where I pursued a Bachelor's degree in Applied Science with a minor in Communications. This academic path equipped me with a strong foundation in both practical healthcare skills and effective communication, preparing me for a diverse range of professional opportunities.
After completing my degrees in Occupational Therapy Assistant and Applied Science with a minor in Communications, I decided to pivot my career path towards the dynamic field of technology and web development.
After realizing my passion for technology, I enrolled in a six-month, in-person bootcamp called Codeup. Codeup was known for its immersive, hands-on approach to coding education, offering comprehensive training in full-stack web development. The bootcamp provided an intensive curriculum covering HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and various back-end technologies, along with practical projects that simulated real-world scenarios. The collaborative learning environment and guidance from experienced instructors were invaluable.
By the end of the program, I had developed a strong portfolio and gained the confidence to embark on a career in tech, fully equipped with the skills needed to succeed in the industry and realized my knack for all things front-end.
My design background is non-traditional, as I have no formal training, but my passion for design has always driven me to learn and grow. I have watched hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of YouTube videos and online courses on design practices, UI/UX principles, and the latest trends in the industry. My interest in design dates back to my childhood, when I would spend hours designing my Neopets pet page, experimenting with colors, layouts, and graphics.
This early fascination evolved into a deep appreciation for the art and science of design, motivating me to continuously refine my skills and apply them in my web development projects. My self-taught journey has been fueled by curiosity and a relentless desire to create visually appealing and user-friendly digital experiences.
All of my skills combined led me to be discovered by my current boss at my present company, where I have been hired as a government contractor. In this role, I excel as both a UI/UX designer and a front-end developer. My responsibilities span the entire design and development process. I create wireframes and mockups, ensuring the design aligns with user needs and project goals. Then, I bring these designs to life through coding, transforming concepts into fully functional web interfaces.
Collaborating closely with government officials, I ensure that the final product not only meets technical specifications but also provides an intuitive and engaging user experience. Balancing these dual roles allows me to leverage my diverse skill set, making a meaningful impact in every project I undertake.
I am in the process of starting my own company, Yellow Lemons (under construction), which aims to design websites for small businesses in Central and South Texas. Through Yellow Lemons, I aspire to help local businesses stand out with unique and engaging web designs, leveraging my expertise in UI/UX design and front-end development to create impactful digital experiences.
Additionally, I am currently studying for my Security Plus exam, which I plan on completing by the end of July 2024. This certification will enhance my understanding of cybersecurity, further strengthening my skill set in the tech industry.
